BER Airport is an international commercial airport located south of the Berlin city boundary in the federal state of Brandenburg. Its total capacity is 34 million passengers a year, split between Terminal 1 with 28 million and Terminal 2 with 6 million passengers. Extensions are planned in order to reach an annual handling capacity of 58 million passengers by 2035. Construction of the airport began in 2006 and, after the opening date had been postponed seven times, it opened in October 2020. The airport is operated by Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH and is entirely in public ownership. The airport is especially popular with holidaymakers and offers flights with a variety of airlines such as Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
BER Airport is very well connected to the motorway network. BER Airport lies to the south-east, about 25 km from Berlin city centre. Coming from the city centre, the journey can take about 40 minutes depending on traffic. BER Airport is best reached via the A113 motorway or the B96a federal road. After around 15 minutes on the A113 you join the A100 Berlin city motorway and then the A10 (Berliner Ring).
To get to Terminal 5, you need to take the "Schönefeld Süd" junction.
